note: This fresco, along with its surviving partner from Santa Maria della Pietà in Camposanto, from Clayton's perspective "show enough of the characteristics of Polidoro to suggest that he took over the project after Perino's departure before he, too, fled the plague, after which the scheme was completed by a much less competent artist' (Clayton, 200).
