Deesis

Christ in Glory with Four Saints (Deesis) (1519-1520)

by:   Romano      patron:   da Piacenza      category: Painting    location: Convent of San Paolo
related artifacts: Dëesis modello | Dëesis study | Raimondi Dëesis

note:  While the patron of this work is unknown, Henry/Joannides (2013) note that this painting is documented at the convent in 1671 and that it also seems to have influenced the composition of Parmigianio's Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine (1524). Accordingly, they link the patronage to the Benedictine abbess at the time (pp. 148-150).
