note: Campbell (1996) argued for this work on paper being linked to Raphael's tapestry designs for Pope Leo X; Henry/Joannides (2013) suggest that this might be linked to plans for a letto de paramento hung with tapestries in the Sala dei Pappagalli/Sala dei Palafrenieri (to either hold the papal robes laid out or to serve as a daybed of sorts (p. 113). The plans for this piece of furniture were surmised by Fischel (1934) who used Vincidor's requests for images during his stay in Flanders (where the tapestry versions were to be made) to propose how this bed might have appeared (with a resconstruction published in Weddigen 2006).
